Critical Illness Stats:
- One in three
people in Britain will have a cancer diagnosed at some time
during their life. (1)
- Every year,
around 300,000 people have heart attacks. For 150,000 people, it
is their first. Half of all heart attacks are fatal. (2)
- Of those women
who are diagnosed with breast cancer, 62% survive five years or
more. (3) -
Between 1986 and 1996, the death rate declined about 25% for
heart attacks and almost 15% for strokes (4)
- Less than 10%
of all strokes are fatal (5)
- The survival
rate for cancer is almost 50% higher than in 1950 (6)
- The
possibility of surviving a critical illness before age 65 is
almost twice as great as dying(7)
Income
Protection Stats:
Recent research by the Fabian Society has
revealed the following startling facts about income protection
plans:
- One in four employees believe that they would receive a full
year’s salary from their employer if they were to become ill (most
companies only pay up to three months) - Two out of three workers do not know how much state benefits
would pay. - Four out of five workers worry about their income. - Two out of three workers have no income protection plan. - 60% of workers believed it to be very important to take out their
own income protection plan. - When told the facts of State benefits 72% of all workers believed
that it was less than enough to live on.
